<h1><a name="XREF_40125_Public_Access"></a><a name="XREF_10803_Setting_Public"></a>Setting Public Access Profiles and Parameters</h1>
<p>Public access parameters and profiles control general aspects of public access, and specific functions related to Polaris PowerPAC, Polaris PowerPAC Children’s Edition, and Polaris Mobile PAC. You can make most settings at the system, library, or branch level. You can view and set public access profiles and parameters from the Administration Explorer or an administration workform.</p>
<p class="NoteShade"><b><b>Note:</b><br></br></b>These System Administration permissions are required to modify profiles and parameters: <b>Access Administration: Allow</b>, <b>Libraries: Access</b>, <b>Branches: Access</b>, <b>Modify parameters: Allow</b>, <b>Modify profiles: Allow, System: Access, System: Modify.</b></p>
<p>Your library may use multiple Polaris public access applications:</p>
<ul type="disc">
<li>Polaris<span class="FM_SuperScript">®</span> PowerPAC<span class="FM_SuperScript">™</span>&#160;provides responsive Web-based access to library searches and services from remote computers, tablets, and smartphones, and from devices in the library.</li>
<li>Polaris<span class="FM_SuperScript">®</span> PowerPAC<span class="FM_SuperScript">™ </span>Children’s Edition is the Web-based application designed specifically for children’s use.</li>
<li>Polaris Mobile PAC is the Web-based PAC application designed for mobile devices.</li>
</ul>
<p class="NoteShade"><b><b>Note:</b><br /></b>The Statistical Summary report provides detailed information about system activity, including PAC activity such as patron logins, patron self-registration, holds placed from PAC, and holds cancelled from PAC. To access this report, select <b>Utilities, Reports and Notices</b>&#160;from the Polaris Shortcut bar, and select <b>System</b>&#160;in the Polaris Reports dialog box. </p>

<ol>
<li value="1">In the Administration Explorer tree view, expand the organization for which you want to set profiles or parameters.</li>
<li value="2">Select <b>Parameters</b>&#160;or <b>Profiles</b> in the list under the expanded folder. The <b>Parameters</b>&#160;or <b>Profiles</b> tabs are displayed in the details view.</li>
<li value="3">Select the appropriate tab:<ul type="disc"><li>If you selected <b>Parameters</b>, click the <b>PAC</b> tab.</li></ul></li>

<p class="NoteShade"><b>Note:<br /></b><b>Search Agent Parameters</b>&#160;is the only organization PAC parameter. It controls the ability to set up and save automatic searches in the PAC. See <a href="../PDOSearching/PAC_Search_Agent_Saved_Searches.htm" class="MCXref xref"><span style="color: Blue;" class="mcFormatColor">Setting Up Saved Searches in the PAC</span></a>.</p>

<li value="4">Double-click the parameter or profile you want to set. The option value is highlighted for editing, or a dialog box appears.</li>

<p class="NoteShade"><b>Tip:<br /></b>To get a setting from the next higher organizational level, right-click the parameter or profile and select <b>Inherit higher level values</b>. To give a setting to multiple lower organizations, right-click the parameter or profile and select <b>Transmit values to lower levels</b>. Not all settings can be inherited or transmitted.</p>

<li value="5">Depending on the options, set the parameter or profile by typing text or selecting an option, and click <b>OK</b>.</li>
<li value="6">Select <b>File &gt; Save</b>.</li>
