||||
<p>The Label Manager window appears when you select <span class="Input">Utilities, Label Manager </span>from the Polaris Shortcut Bar. It also appears automatically after a label request is generated if <span class="Input">On demand</span> printing is selected in Polaris Administration.</p>
|
||||
<p> Use the Label Manager to:</p>
|
||||
<ul>
|
||||
<li><span class="BulletHead">Print the labels</span> - Select <b>File</b> > <b>Print</b> or click<span class="Input"><img src="printerlabman_16x16.gif" class="imginline" alt="" style="width: 16;height: 16;" /></span>.</li>
|
||||
<li><span class="BulletHead">Clear the labels</span> - Select <b>File</b> > <b>Clear</b>.</li>
|
||||
<li><span class="BulletHead">Save the current label setup</span> - Select <b>File</b> > <b>Save</b> to save the labels that you see in the Label Manager. When you reopen the Label Manager, the same view appears. If you want to save the label setup in a file, select <span class="Input">Save As</span>. </li>
|
||||
<li><span class="BulletHead">Save a label file</span> - Select <b>File</b> > <b>Save As</b>, select a location for the file, and name the file. It is saved as a .dat file. You can use <span class="Input">Save As</span> if you want to create a set of labels, save them, and then create a different label setup in Label Manager.</li>
|
||||
<li><span class="BulletHead">Preview the labels before printing them -</span> Select <span class="Input">File, Print Preview</span>. The Print Preview window appears.</li>
|
||||
<li><span class="BulletHead">Refresh the labels </span>- Select <span class="Input">File, Refresh</span> or click <img src="refreshbtn_16x16.gif" class="imginline" alt="" style="width: 16;height: 16;" /></li>
|

<li><span class="BulletHead">Select the label type</span> - Select <span class="Input">Labels</span> and select the label type to use.</li>
|
||||
<li><span class="BulletHead">Change the settings for the label type</span> - Select <span class="Input">Tools</span>, <span class="Input">Label Settings and Content</span>. The Label Configuration dialog box appears. Use the Label Configuration dialog box to make settings to the label type. </li>
|

<li><span class="BulletHead">Create a new label type - </span>Select <span class="Input">Tools, Design Custom Label</span>. The Customize Label dialog box appears. </li>
|
||||
<li><span class="BulletHead">Set the default printers for labels </span>- Select <span class="Input">Tools, Set Default Printers</span>. The Set Default Printers dialog box appears. For each label type, select the down arrow in the <span class="Input">Printer Name</span> column, and select the printer for the label type.</li>

<li><span class="BulletHead">Enter or change the text of the labels</span> - Type the text within the label borders. </li>
|
||||
<li><span class="BulletHead">Copy text from one label to another label</span> - Select the text to copy, right-click and select <span class="Input">Copy</span>. </li>

<li><span class="BulletHead">Paste text into a label</span> - After copying the text, position the cursor inside the label, right-click and select <span class="Input">Paste</span> to paste the copied text into the label. </li>
|

<p class="NoteShade"><span class="NoteHeader">Note</span>:<br />You can also copy and paste from another Windows application. For example, you could copy text from a Microsoft Word document into a label.</p>

<li><span class="BulletHead">Delete text from a label </span>- Select the text to delete, right-click and select <span class="Input">Delete</span>.</li>

||||
<li><span class="BulletHead">Insert a label before a selected label</span> - Position the cursor inside the label borders, right-click, and select <span class="Input">Insert Before</span>. A label is inserted before the selected label.</li>
|
||||
<li><span class="BulletHead">Insert a label after a selected label</span> - Position the cursor inside the label borders, right-click, and select <span class="Input">Insert After</span>. A label is inserted before the selected label.</li>
|
||||
<li><span class="BulletHead">Change the label font</span> - Right-click, and select <span class="Input">Font</span>. The Font dialog box appears. Select the font, the font point size, and any other characteristics for the font, such as bold or italics. This changes the font for the labels in this session. If you want to change the font for the label type, select <span class="Input">Tools, Label Settings and Content</span>, and set the font on the Label Configuration dialog box. </li>

||||
<p>The Linked Records dialog box lists the records that are linked to a record in the Find Tool results list or to the record displayed in a workform. To open the dialog box, select <span class="Input">Links, Existing </span>and then select the type of record from a workform, or right-click a record listed in the Find Tool results list and select <span class="Input">Links</span> and the type of record. </p>

<p>To see the options that are available from the Linked Records dialog box, select a record or records in the list, and right-click. The tasks you can do from the Linked Records dialog box depend on the type of records that are listed. You can also click the headings to sort the list. <p>The New Record dialog box appears when you select <b>File</b> > <b>New</b> or click <img src="newicon_16x16.gif" class="imginline" alt="" style="width: 16;height: 16;" /> from a workform. Use the New Record dialog box to do the following:</p>

<li>Create a new record without copying an information in the existing workform - Select <b>Clear Work Form</b>.</li>

<li>Create a new record that is a copy of the existing record - Select <b>Copy Existing Work Form</b>. </li>

<p class="NoteShade"><b>Note:<br /></b>You can start out by copying the existing record to save time, and then change certain aspects of the record. If the copied record is an exact duplicate of the existing record, you may not be able to save it until you make some changes. </p>

The context menu lists only the actions you can do with the particular type of record. You can multi-select some types of records and then right-click to perform an action on all of them.</li>

A total count of the records that match your search criteria appears on the bottom of the Find Tool. Select <b>Display results</b> if you want to see the results list. Select the <b>Settings</b> tab and click <b>Add to new record set</b> if you want to add the records to a record set without displaying the results list. Or, if you want to display the results and add them to a record set, select both options. </li>

Limit the search by selecting an option in the <b>Limit by </b>box, and then select or enter a value in the <b>Value</b> box. Select an option in the <b>Sort by</b> box to display the results in a sort order. </li>

You can select this option if you display the results or just the count of records. <p class="Task"><span class="BulletHead" style="font-weight: bold;">Specify the maximum number of records that can be sent to a record set before a warning appears</span> - When you select<b> Send Results to a New Record Se</b>t, you can change the warning message threshold by typing another number in the <b>Warning Size Threshold</b> box. For example, if the <b>Warning Size Threshold</b> is set to a default of 1000 records, no warning message appears unless the search yields more than 999 records that will be sent to the record set. You can set the number at a lower number or higher number. </p>

<p class="Task"><span class="BulletHead" style="font-weight: bold;">Ignore initial articles in the search</span> - Select <b>Use Initial Articles Table</b> checkbox. The Initial Articles Table defines the articles to ignore in searches. </p>

<p>The Polaris Shortcut Bar appears when you start Polaris. When you log on to Polaris, the menu options on the Shortcut Bar become available.</p>

<li><span class="BulletHead">Start a subsystem task</span> - Select <span class="Input">Acquisitions, Serials, Cataloging, Patron Services, </span>or<span class="Input"> Circulation</span>. Then select a menu option. </li>

<li><span class="BulletHead">Start a system administration task</span> - Select <span class="Input">Administration. </span></li>
|
||||
<li><span class="BulletHead">Create a record</span> - Select <span class="Input">File, New </span>to display the New dialog box.</li>

||||
<li><span class="BulletHead">Create a record set</span> - Select <span class="Input">File, New</span> and select a type of record set.</li>
|
||||
<li><span class="BulletHead">Work with labels</span> - Select <span class="Input">Utilities, Label Manager</span>.</li>

||||
<li><span class="BulletHead">Search for a record</span> - Select a subsystem and record type to search using the Find Tool.</li>

<li><span class="BulletHead">Generate hold notices and overdue notices</span> - Select <span class="Input">Utilities, Reports and Notices</span>. </li>

<li><span class="BulletHead">Check automatic processing of Cataloging records </span>- Select <span class="Input">Utilities, Cataloging Processing </span>and select one of the following options from the menu: <ul><li><span class="Input">Purge Cataloging Records</span> - Check the process that purges deleted cataloging records so they are permanently removed from the database.</li><li><span class="Input">Bibliographic Bulk Change Queue</span> - Check bulk change processing.</li><li><span class="Input">Authority Create Links Queue or Authority Update Links Queue</span> - Check the progress of new or updated linking process for authority records.</li><li><span class="BulletHead">Create an automatic record set of unlinked items</span> - Select <span class="Input">Utilities, Cataloging Processing</span> and select one of the following options from the menu:</li><li><span class="Input">Create unlinked bibliographic record set </span>- A record set is created that contains all bibliographic records in the database that do not have links to other records. The Bibliographic Record Set workform opens. </li><li><span class="Input">Create unlinked authority record set</span> - A record set is created that contains all the authority records in the database that do not have links to other records. The Authority Record Set workform opens. </li></ul></li>

<li><span class="BulletHead">Access Acquisitions processing</span> - Select <span class="Input">Utilities, Acquisitions Processing</span>, and select one of the following options from the menu:<ul><li><span class="Input">Link to Supplier Databases</span> - If your library has set up a list of supplier databases, you can access them from this dialog box.</li><li><span class="Input">Purge Purchase Orders and Invoices - </span>Purge purchase orders and invoices from the database according to specified criteria.</li><li><span class="Input">Run Fiscal Year Utility </span>- Run the utility that handles fiscal year rollovers.</li><li><span class="Input">Update Currency Exchange Rates -</span> If your library uses foreign suppliers, update the currency exchange rate.</li></ul></li>

<li><span class="BulletHead">Import cataloging records</span> - Select <span class="Input">Utilities, Importing. </span></li>

<li><span class="BulletHead">Export cataloging records</span> - Select <span class="Input">Utilities, Export</span>. </li>

<li><span class="BulletHead">Create and manage importing profiles</span> - Select <span class="Input">Utilities, Importing, Profile Manager. </span></li>

<li><span class="BulletHead">Go to the Credit Card Payment Manager</span> - Select <span class="Input">Utilities, Credit Card Payment Manager</span>. The Credit Card Payment Manager workform appears.</li>

<li><span class="BulletHead">Get help with Polaris</span> - Select <span class="Input">Help </span>and select one of the following menu items:<ul><li><span class="Input">Polaris Topics </span>- Displays the table of contents for Polaris Staff Help. Click on <span class="Input">+</span> next to any book icon to expand the table of contents. </li><li><span class="Input">Search For Help On</span> - Opens Polaris Staff Help on the Search tab. Type a search term to search for every instance of that term. For more precise searching, enter a term on the Index tab.</li><li><span class="Input">Shortcut Bar Help </span>- Opens Polaris Staff Help to information about the Polaris Shortcut Bar. </li><li><span class="Input">Library Documents</span> - If your library has set up its own documentation for Polaris, it can be accessed from this menu option. You specify the location of the documents using the System Administration profile <span class="Input">Library documents - staff client</span>.</li><li><span class="Input">Obtaining Technical Support</span> - Opens the Innovative Customer Supportal Log in page. Log in to enter issues and to access other customer resources.</li><li><span class="Input">About Polaris</span> - Displays the About Polaris dialog box with the Polaris version and build number, server, logged in user and log-in branch information.</li></ul></li>
