<ol>
<li value="1">In the Administration Explorer tree view, expand the organization for which you want to set parameters.</li>
<li value="2">Select <b>Parameters or Profiles</b> in the list under the expanded folder. The <b>Parameters or Profiles</b> tabs are displayed in the details view.</li>
<li value="3">Select the <b>Patron Services</b> tab. The list of Patron Services parameters appears.</li>

<li value="4">Use the scroll bar to review all the parameters or profiles in the list.</li>
<li value="5">Double-click the parameter or profile you want to set. The parameter or profile value is highlighted, ready for editing, or a dialog box appears.</li>

<p class="NoteShade"><b>Tip:<br /></b>To get a setting from the next higher organizational level, right-click the parameter or profile and select <b>Inherit higher level values</b>. To give a setting to multiple lower organizations, right-click the parameter or profile and select <b>Transmit values to lower levels</b>. Not all settings can be inherited or transmitted.</p>

<li value="6">Set the parameter or profile as follows:<ul><li>Type text.</li><li>Use arrows to select an option.</li><li>In a dialog box, enter the information and click <b>OK</b>.</li></ul></li>

<ol>
<li value="1">In the Administration Explorer tree view, select the <b>Security</b>folder for the organization for which you want to set circulation permissions. Certain permissions related to holds, interlibrary loans, patron registration, and patron status (accounting) must be set for each branch that does these functions. Other permissions are set at the system level.</li>
</ol>
<p class="indent2">The Security view is displayed in the details pane.</p>
<p class="NoteShade"><b>Tip:<br /><span style="font-weight: normal;font-style: normal;">To display all the circulation permissions, select (highlight) </span><b style="font-weight: normal;font-style: normal;">Circulation</b><span style="font-weight: normal;font-style: normal;">in the Control Record list, and press </span><b style="font-weight: normal;font-style: normal;">ALT+*</b><span style="font-weight: normal;font-style: normal;">(on the numeric key pad).</span></b>

<li value="2">Double-click <b>Circulation</b>in the <b>Control Record</b> list.</li>
<li value="3">Double-click the record or function for which you want to assign permissions. The permissions list for the selected object appears.</li>
<li value="4">Select the permission you want to assign. The staff members, workstations, and groups that have the permission for the organization are listed under <b>Individuals With Permission</b>.</li>

<li value="5">Add the resources (groups, workstations, staff members) that need the selected permission by doing the following steps:<ol style="list-style-type: lower-alpha;"><li value="1">Click <b>Assign</b>, and select the resource type. The Polaris Find Tool appears.</li><li value="2">Use the Find Tool to search for and select one or more resources. The Administration Explorer is displayed. The selected resources are displayed in the <b>Individuals With Permission</b> list.</li></ol></li>

<li value="7">Select <b>File </b>&gt;<b> Save</b> to save your changes.</li>

Circulation permissions define who can create, access, and work with patron records and circulation functions. Each organization can specify which groups, workstations, and staff members are allowed to work with records and control processes. <h1><a name="XREF_40022_Setting"></a>Setting Circulation Policy and Database Tables</h1>
<p><a name="kanchor3560"></a><a name="IX_overview_116"></a>Many circulation workflows are affected by policy and database table settings. Some tables define the options available for specific fields in item and patron records, while others identify values used in circulation transactions, such as due date calculation and overdue fine calculation. The tables are typically set up during implementation, data conversion, or Polaris site installation. Many can be edited as your needs change. You can edit some tables at the branch level. Other settings must be shared by all organizations.</p>

The sets of available parameters and profiles are different for each administration level (system, library, and branch). Separate sets of parameters control requests, notification, self-check operations, and credit card transaction processing.</p>
<p>You can view and set the Patron Services parameters and profiles from the Administration Explorer or an administration workform.</p>

<h1>Override Patron Services Permissions Blocks</h1>
<p><a name="kanchor338"></a><a name="IX_supervisor_override_2"></a><a name="kanchor339"></a><a name="IX_supervisor_override_1"></a>When a staff member does not have the appropriate permission to do a patron services/circulation task, a permission block message appears. You can allow certain staff members or supervisors to override the permission block so that the staff member without permission can continue the blocked task.</p>
<p> Set the Patron Services profile <b>Override patron services blocks to Yes</b>at the staff member level for the staff member who should be able to override permission blocks.
