<h1><a name="kanchor2983"></a>Manage Items with a Claim Missing Parts Status</h1>

<p class="NoteShade"><b>Tip:</b>
|
|
<br />You can search for items with a status of Claim Missing Part in the Find Tool by setting the <b>Search by</b> or <b>Limit by</b> option to <b>Circulation Status > Claim Missing Parts</b>.</p>
|
|
<p>When a staff member uses the Special Item Check-in dialog box to check in multi-part items for which a part or parts are missing, she can update the items to a status of Claim Missing Parts. This blocks the item from being circulated; moves the item to the Claims view of the Patron Status workform; and generates a notice to the patron. See <a href="../PPckin/Check-in items with missing parts.htm" class="MCXref xref"><span style="color: Blue;" class="mcFormatColor">Check In Items With Missing Parts</span></a>.</p>

<p>If an item with a status of Claim Missing Parts is listed in the Claims view of the Patron Status workform, you can charge the patron for the missing part if the item is salvageable, or declare the item lost if it is not salvageable. You can also see the notification history regarding the item with a missing part.</p>
|

<p>To manage items with a status of Claim Missing Parts:</p>
|
|
<ol>
|
|
<li value="1">Open the Patron Status workform, and go to the Claims view.</li>
|
|
<li value="2">Select an item with a Claim Type of <b>Claim Missing Parts</b>.</li>
|
|
<li value="3">To see notices sent regarding this item, click the Notification history button <img src="notifhist_16x16.png" class="imginline" alt="" style="width: 16;height: 16;" />or press <b>CTRL+N</b>.</li>
|
|
<li value="4">Charge the patron for the missing part or, if the item cannot be circulated, declare the item lost and charge for the total replacement cost:<ul><li>To declare the item lost and send a bill for the replacement charge to the patron, click <img alt="pLostIcon.gif" style="margin-bottom: -4.000pt;width: 29;height: 28;" id="image1" src="../PPlost/pLostIcon_29x28.gif" /> or press <b>CTRL+L </b>to display the Declare lost item dialog box, and enter the information for the unsalvageable item. See <a href="../PPlost/Declare_an_item_lost.htm" class="MCXref xref"><span style="color: Blue;" class="mcFormatColor">Declare an Item Lost</span></a>.</li><li>To charge the patron for the missing part and optionally send a bill, click the Check In/Charge button <img src="checkchrg_16x16.png" class="imginline" alt="" style="width: 16;height: 16;" />. The Charge for missing parts dialog box appears where you can enter the charge, reason, and notes. You can select the <b>Send a bill</b> checkbox and optionally add a message to be included on the bill. </li></ul></li>
